We have previously talked about ways to disable or hide ribbon explorer in windows 8, you can read our guide here and today we will tell you about more ways to remove ribbon bar in windows 8 explorer and revert to old windows explorer just like you see in windows 7 or vista. There are 3 ways to do this.
Hide The Windows 8 Ribbon Explorer
The most simplest and the easiest way to get rid of ribbon explorer in windows 8 is to simply hide it, you can also press Ctrl+f! as shown in the image below.
But as you the ribbon bar in windows explorer will show up next time you login or restart windows 8, as you cant to force windows 8 to hide ribbon bar by default for a permanent solution to hide or don’t show ribbon bar see the last method.
Remove Ribbon Explorer In Windows 8 Using Ribbon Disabler [For 64 Bit]
We have already tested this tool named Ribbon Disabler, it works both on windows developer preview and windows 8 consumer preview, It allows you to disable Ribbon in Windows 8 CP’s Explorer and preserve Paint and Wordpad. It is portable application and has option to restore ribbon and no system files what will be modified by this tool.
Please Note – Ribbon Disabler supports only x64 system. The developer is currently working on x86 version of this tool for windows 8 x86 or 32 bit.
Disable Ribbon Explorer In Windows 8 With Metro UI Controller
Metro UI Controller you to disable Metro UI in Windows 8 without manual registry hacks but it allows you to disable all the metro UI features in windows 8 like Ribbon Explorer, Lock screen and Start Screen or in second mode disable all the features but keep ribbon explorer as shown in the image below.
Permanently Disable Ribbon Explorer In Windows 8
You can disable the ribbon explorer permanently using group policy settings which allow you to disable Explorer Ribbon and start Explorer with the ribbon minimized. Follow the procedure below.
1. Open the Run dialog in Windows 8 (you can open run dialog by pressing the Windows Key + R)
2. Type gpedit.msc and press enter [ This will open the Windows group policy editor ]
3. Expand "Computer Configuration"
4. Expand "Administrative Templates"
5. Expand "Windows Components"
6. Click "Windows Explorer"
Find "Start Windows Explorer with Ribbon minimized" as shown in the image below.
Double click on it to open the settings and choose "Enabled". This will make sure Windows Explorer is always opened with the Ribbon minimized when windows 8 starts.
