Android Internet Browser May Leak Files From Your Phone – Android Vulnerability

by Rohit Khurana on November 30, 2010

Hello readers, today I am going to share something related to Android OS and this ‘something’ is not good. In this post we will be talking about the vulnerability in your Android OS and how can this vulnerability be harmful for you. We will also tell you that how this vulnerability will affect your mobile and before telling you all this let me tell you that this vulnerability exists in all the version of Android which has been developed till date. So we can expect this vulnerability to be removed in the new version of Android (2.3 GINGERBREAD) which will be released soon.

Now this vulnerability was due to that fact that Android browser never asks the user before downloading any HTML page, it just notifies the user and the notification can be seen in the notification area. Now the problem is that a Java script can also be downloaded by the mobile phone without even asking you and because it has been downloaded in the remote location so it will be opened automatically and then it will be able to access the files in that remote location or I should say that it can easily access your files present on your cell-phone [SD card]. So, we can easily conclude that if anyone knows about the exact location of your file and if he/she also knows about the exact name of the file then it is really very easy to get that thing out of your mobile.

Google has already been notified about this shortcoming and in their next release which is known as Gingerbread you will not see this problem. The Android browser notifies you whenever it downloads any HTML file but it should also ask before downloading it else there is no use of making any notification, so I expect that Gingerbread will also include the permission from the user whenever it downloads any HTML file.

We will keep you updated with any new changes found related to this news topic or any other topic which is related to it and anyhow if you get to know anything related to the news topics mentioned above then please do not hesitate to share it with us, just put it down in the comments section and if we found it genuine then we will be sharing that piece of information with all the other readers on your behalf, so keep searching something useful and then let us know about it. Till then keep reading, take care of yourself and have a nice day!
