Ask TroubleFixers – Solutions To Computer Problems – #8

This is part 9 of the Ask Trouble Fixers series, we have picked up five questions out of some problems we received from our readers.

Trouble 1 :

Whenever I am trying to format my Pen-drive it keeps showing that windows was
unable to complete the format. – Amal

Fix:

There are several possible reason for which this problem appears. We have already covered it in our article : Problem in formatting pen drive

Trouble 2 :

I get this error with windows media player – Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound  device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly. – Noker

Fix:

This problem usually occurs due to sound driver issues or some missing audio/video codecs.

Trouble 3 :

I downloaded firmware for my Netgear router. It was a .chk file which the router would not accept.  – Tim

Fix:

There is a known bug in some of the Netgear routers (including the one I am using) that it will not accept the .chk file using Mozilla Firefox. You can use the same file to upgrade the firmware using Microsoft Internet Explorer. It worked for my router.

Trouble 4 :

I ran the software to remove the WGA notification,it said it was not on my system however, it keeps appearing just as windows opens.How do I get rid of it?  – Tim

Fix:

You can suppress the WGA notification, but this won’t solve the problem. Get the copy of Windows Registered properly to get rid of this warning. Here is a tool for suppressing the warning : How To Remove Windows Is Not Genuine Notification

Trouble 5 :

I cant access any Antivirus Website & Microsoft website. Page Can not be displayed error indicates. – Rajoo

Fix:

Not being able to open antivirus websites is a symptopm of virus which is preventing access to search engines and anti-virus update sites so that the virus can protect itself.
