2. On Local Group Policy Editor in Windows, navigate to the following path on the left hand side pane of the window.

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer

3. Now Double Click on the setting “Prevent access to drives from My Computer”. This will open a setting window. On this setting Window, click Enabled and select the drives for which you want to restrict the access. The simply Click OK to save the setting.

That is it, you will now see an error when you try to access a hard disk partition  on a drive in My computer. The error message will tell you “The operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect from this computer. Please contact you system administrator”

So next time you see this Restriction Window, you know that Windows Explorer has been restricted. To remove this restriction, just follow the same steps again and in step 3, select the option “Not Configured” instead of “Enabled”.

I found out that its not me alone, there are many people facing similar problem. This may happen when the site you are trying to open is up and running and opens in other web browsers like Firefox, IE, Opera etc.

I have sometimes restarted my DSL router assuming that its my bad Internet connection causing this problem, I also checked the DNS settings, but they seemed fine.

This problem is because of a setting of Google Chrome called the DNS-Pre-fetching which will fetch the IP addresses of all the links on your current webpage so that when you click any of these links, it can save time on DNS resolution. In some rare instances, pre-fetching of DNS may fail, which cause this DNS error.

To fix this problem, you simply need to turn off this setting by following these 2 simple steps.

1. Click on the settings at the top right corner of the Google Chrome browser and click option.

2. Click on the “Under the Hood” and uncheck the option which says “Use DNS pre-fetching to improve page load performance”, press close button.

It was simple, wasn’t it ? After turning this feature off, your page load time will increase very slightly but it will not give you DNS errors if the site you are opening is up and running.

In this article, I am going to review a tool called SpyDLL Remover which is a lightweight and very well targeted DLL scanning tool which can scan for any spyware of infected code by canning the DLL (Dynamic Link Library) files running or installed on the computer. Smart Auto Shutdown is a small utility that will sit with your tray icons . You can configure the options while installation or later using the tray icon. It gives you options to clean the following files and records just before shutdown :

In this article I am going to review a freeware tool called Protect Me which creates secure password protected containers in form of executable files. This means that you can keep these files on a Pen drive and open them anywhere without having to install this tool anywhere. It is protected by AES encryption which is very hard to break, so your files and folders will be safe inside this container.

To use it, just run the tool and drag the files and folders you want to protect inside the container, type in a password (one you can remember, else you will not be able to access the container). After that, click the Create Container Button. This will ask you a path to save the container, also the container name as seen in window below.

Select the path and save the container, it will pack all the files and folders inside the container as seen below. This container file will be slightly larger than the original size of all files and folder put together inside this container.

To access the protected files and folders, just double click the container exe files. It will ask you for the password, provide the correct password and you will get access to the files as seen below.

You can simply click on the file you want to access / open, and press the Run button, it will open the file or folder from that container.

Do not click on the link on this message, this takes you to a url which infects your computer with this virus. It downloads a virus file called Picture_2525.exe and installs it.

Fix:

We recommend that you always use a good antivirus tool, free or paid, with real-time protection which can save you from such viruses.

If this virus has already infected your computer, open the task manager by pressing Shift + CTRL + ESC key together and kill the following tasks :

svlostSrv.exe
tasman.exe

 

After this you need to kill the virus service. Press Windows Key + R and type the following command and press enter:

sc delete svlostServices

After this is open the following folder -  c:\Windows\System32  and delete the below mentioned files:

libeay32.dll
ssleay32.dll
svlost.exe
svlosta.dll
svlostb.dll
svlostSrv.exe
tasman.exe

Now clean the Registry entries by running following commands using Windows Key + R using the run prompt:

reg delete "hkcu\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main" /v default_page_url /f
reg delete "hkcu\software\microsoft\internet explorer\main" /v "Start Page" /f

 

As a precautionary measure, change your MSN / Windows Live Password.
