Beware Of Apple Gift Card Phishing Scam Emails

Symantec has reported a recent email scam wherein fraudulent websites send emails to the people and asks them to check their Apple Gift Card balance. This kind of phishing attacks are not un-common, but the fraud sites very intelligently copy the design and layout of the real apple website tricks the visitor into believing that its genuine website.



These sites are created with a purpose of stealing the legitimate Apple Gift card numbers and Pin numbers attached to it. Apple gift cards are the cards are denomination cards which can be redeemed at the Apple retail stores and Apple online stores.


The email contains a links to the fraud website, which looks like Apple Website and it asks for your Gift Card number and PIN to check the balance of the Gift Card. Once a visitor enters the gift card there, it displays an error message that the request can not be processed as yet.


The fraud website now has the Gift card detail and redeem the amount in the gift card. This is a serious attach with financial consequences. So beware of any such emails which give your links to check your Apple Gift Card Balance. Tips to be safe from this fraud :

  • Do Not Click the links in the emails asking you to check your gift card balance
  • Observe the URL carefully, and if you suspect anything fishy, report the mail as SPAM and Phishing attack

If you want to check your card balance or something related to your gift card, manually type the address of Apple website into the address bar and be careful of the page where you enter financial information.
