I use Gmail a lot and send email attachment via mails at times. Sometimes I observe that it takes a long time to send emails with attachments. On the top of the Gmail Windows in my web browser, it will display message like “Sending” or “Still working” as seen below:

It may seem to you that it is some problem with the Gmail, but in real, this is a problem with either slow internet connectivity or poor upload speeds in certain cases. The status you see like the one above may stay there for a few minutes. During this time, when you see the message of Still Working or Sending, the files are actually getting uploaded from your computer to the Gmail server which takes time.

In this article we will tell you a trick with which you can avoid this confusion.

Fix:

The fix for this is nothing else then a default feature of the Gmail. As soon as you attach a file to Gmail and before pressing the send button, the file upload starts to the Gmail server. This is done to save the time. There is a  flash based progress bar for the file upload which is visible in the browsers which have Flash Player Installed and enabled.

We recommend to install Flash Player for your Web Browser and then monitor the progress of your file upload using this flash progress bar as seen below:

Wait until the files are getting uploaded, this may take some time depending on your Internet connection upload speed and the file size. After the progress bar indicated that the upload is complete, simply press the Send button, and you will not see any Still working or Sending Messages because the file upload is already complete.

If you already have Flash Player in your web-browser and it is enabled, you will see this bar automatically. If this bar does not come for you, download and Install the flash player from the link below.

It could happen to you when you try to see some windows media player videos, you may not be able to play the videos in your firefox browser as windows.

Have you ever tried to send an EXE file or RAR file using GMAIL or Yahoo mail ? If yes, then you must have seen error screen like one below :

<filename>.exe is an executable file. For security reasons, Gmail does not allow you to send this type of file.

Even if you zip the exe file or remove the file extension, or change the file extension to .jpg or some other format, Gmail will still identify the file contained in the zipped file or file with changed extension. This is because it reads the file headers etc to identify the file type.

This is a great feature of GMAIL which prevents the spread of viruses through emails. But in case you urgently need to send some genuine files for some reason, there is a trick to to that.

In this article I will share a trick to send an EXE or RAR file using Gmail or other email services.

Fix:

Before I tell you the trick, I suggest you to be sure that you are not sending any copyrighted or illegal file to anyone.

To send an executable file though email, the most convenient way is to embed that file in a word document. To that follow the below steps :

1. Open Microsoft Word and create a new word document.

2. Go to Insert > Object From the tool-bar

3. This will open a Insert Object window,on this windows, select the tab “Insert From File

4. Click the browse button, locate the EXE or RAR or the CMD file which you want to send via email. Also Click the Display as icon check box on this window and press OK.

5. The embedded file will appear as an icon in the Word document as seen below. Click on

File > Save As option and save the file as a doc file.

6. Now you can simply attach this word file and send it via Gmail, see the snapshots below:

As a free user, how should I proceed if RapidShare claims that I am already downloading a file when in fact I am not and have not done so for sometime before the attempt?

This is quite a common problem especially when you use a network where many users are sharing a common LAN or wireless network in places like colleges and offices.

This kind of problem is faced by free users of Rapidshare or Megaupload. This usually happens because the file sharing websites like Rapidshare or Megaupload will monitor the IP address of the computers downloading the content. When you are in a shared network environment, then the external IP address can be same for multiple computers because of NAT etc.

Fix:

Solution for ADSL Users With Dynamic IP Address

If you use a router from service providers which assigns you a dynamic IP address every time you connect your device to the Internet, then you can solve this problem in most simple way. In India, MTNL , AIRTEL, TATA , VSNL and BSNL are the main service providers who provide such service. In that case, simply power off the ADSL router and Power it on back again. This will disconnect you from Internet for a while and then will connect you back using the ADSL but will assign a new IP address and you can now download the content from Rapidshare and Megaupload or other such websites. You might also have to close your Internet Explorer or Firefox along with it to clear the scripts or cookies maintained by such websites to maintain a session.

Note: Some service providers provide a static IP, this technique will not work on such cases.

Rapidshare Addon For Mozilla Firefox

There is a popular Add-On for Mozilla Firefox called rapidshare @ office which will allow users to automate the process of rapidshare download. You can Intsall this firefox add-on from rapidshare @ office page.

Solution for Shared LAN or Wifi Users

If you use office / college or any other shared network, then you can follow the below steps to get a new IP address.

1. Go to Start > Run

2. Type command and press enter, this will open a command prompt. On this prompt, type the following commands one by one in the order mentioned below and press enter after each line.

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

Note : This method may not work when NAT (network address translation) is hiding the IP of your computer from the websites and rapidshare may still give an “already downloading” error.
