6. Restart your computer, if it doesn’t restart it automatically.
7. Open Yahoo folder in Program Files (C:\Program Files\Yahoo) and delete it.
8. Open registry through Start Menu >> Run and type regedit now navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ registry entry, delete Yahoo, and exit the Registry.

If the above method does not work for you, try the following methods to solve the problem.

1. Open Program Files >> Yahoo Messenger and find the file UNWISE.exe file. Double click this to run it. This will un install yahoo messenger.

2. Download Revo Uninstaller and uninstall Yahoo messenger with revo un installer.

3. You can also try downloading the newer version and install it directly which might the solve the problem in your case.

4. At last, you can delete the Yahoo Messenger folder on your own. Follow the following path in xp i.e My Computer>>C: drive>>Program Files>>Yahoo>>Messenger.

I tried to update google chrome browser on my office desktop running Windows XP SP2. Due to some mysterious reasons, the update was finished but the google chrome did not load. I restarted the desktop but it was on no use. The desktop shortcut was also not working.

After I checked the target path of the shortcut, I realized that the target files were missing.

After all this mess, I realized that during the upgrade, something went wrong, the files got deleted but not installed back again properly. In this article I will share the solutions to this problem.

Fix:

The problem arises because of abrupt or abnormal termination of the google chrome update because of some reason. To solve this problem, try the below steps:

1. In case the Google Chrome was previously Installed, Uninstall the previous one by going to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs (Programs and Features In Windows Vista). This will ensure that the registry entries for the wrongly installed or bad-installation is removed.

2. Go to the Location

For Windows XP : C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Google\Chrome\

For Windows Vista : C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\

At above location, you will find some Google Chrome files, delete them manually before trying another fresh installation. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

3. Download and Install the Google Chrome From Google Chrome Official Website or you can Download Google Chrome Full Setup [ Offline Installer ] and try a fresh installation.

4. If you are reading this step, it means that the first three steps 3 did not work for you. This is quite possible as google chrome beta versions can be bit unstable sometimes. In this case, i would recommend to download the portable version of Google Chrome and extract this package by double clicking it. Paste the extracted folder into the Program files or C:, create a desktop shortcut of file at location “\Portable_Google_Chrome_2.0.160.0\Chrome\Chrome.exe” and Enjoy google chrome without any Installation. You can copy these files to a pen drive also and run it on any windows computer from the pen drive only.

This portable version also had a chrome_update.exe application, that will update the google chrome to its latest version available. It worked like a charm for me. Hope it will work well for you too.

After a long time of neglect, I powered on my old desktop yesterday and decided to install Ubuntu 8.10 on it. I rarely use my old desktop which is why I decided to make it a test machine and run it dual boot with Windows XP and Ubuntu.

I had done installation on my HP Pavallion laptop, it worked fine, but not my old desktop.

On my desktop after I enter user id and password at Ubuntu login screen, it will accept username and password, but it will not show the ubuntu desktop after login.

I searched for the reason for this problem on ubuntu forums and found an easy solution. I will share the same with you in this post.

Fix:

Before I tell you the fix lets talk why this problem occurred in the first place. In ubuntu 8.10 CD, there is a Software Problem in  Intel video driver for the older Intel 830 and 845 integrated video cards. My old desktop had Intel 845 card. Because of the graphics driver issue, the desktop was not loading.

The solution is fairly simple, disable these derivers and then restart the computer and ubuntu will load without any problems. It will update the drivers to latest drivers afterwards during online upgrade of Ubuntu.

Follow these simple steps to disable the Intel drivers which stop the Desktop to load properly :

1. After entering the username and password, the screen will go blank with the Mouse Cursor still working. In this condition, press these three keys on keyboard together : Ctrl + Alt + F1 . Pressing these three keys together will load the recovery console. It will ask your password, type the password and press enter.

2. On recovery console type the following commands one by one and press enter.

sudo apt-get remove compiz
sudo apt-get remove compiz-core
exit

While running the above commands, it will ask for your password or confirmation. Proceed with Y for yes and press enter.

3. Restart the computer and Ubuntu 8.10 will load normally.

Has your Mouse ever gone faulty when you need it badly?

It is a very bad situation that your mouse gets faulty when you need it badly. In this article we are going to tell you the ways of controlling the mouse cursor with your keyboard keys for Windows XP and Windows Vista Computers.

It is easy to use in-build feature of Windows XP and Windows Vista. After following these steps, you can move the computer pointer/cursor without mouse.

Fix:

We will share the process for both Windows XP and  Windows Vista

We will share all steps assuming that the mouse is faulty, so all steps we mention below make use of only the keyboard.

Enable Mouse Keys in Windows XP

Follow the below steps:

1. Press the Windows Button on keyboard, use the arrow keys to select Control Panel and press Enter Key, this will open Control Panel as shown below:

2. After the control Panel is opened, use the arrow keys to highlight “Accessibility Options” as shown below and press enter key.

3. After the “Accessibility Option” Window opens, press CTRL + TAB key, three times to move to the “Mouse” tab as shown below:

4. Press the spacebar to check the checkbox which says “Use MouseKeys” and press enter.

5. After you press enter in step above,the mouse keys get enabled, which will show like a small icon in tray at the right had bottom of windows screen.

Now to move the cursor, simply turn the NUM-LOCK on your keyboard ON and use the numeric pad to move the cursor. Key “5” on the numeric pad will work like a left-click, “8” will work as top, “2” as bottom, “4” as left and “6” as right.

That is is, done

Enable Mouse Keys in Windows Vista

Follow the below steps in Windows Vista:

1. Press Windows Key, this will launch Start Menu. Type “Ease Of Access” at start Menu, this will show the top result of this window, press enter at this as seen below:

2. This will open Ease of Access Window As seen below:

3. On Above Ease of Access Screen, press TAB key once, and use arrow key to scroll to the option which says “ Make Mouse Easier To Use”, and press enter. This will open another screen as shown below:

4. Use Arrow Key to highlight the Checkbox option which says “Turn on Mouse Keys” and press Space Key to enable the option:

5. Press the TAB key 5 times, this will move the highlight to Save button, press enter key. That is it. Now you are all ready to use the Mouse pointer using your Keyboard. After this option is enabled, you see a small icon of mouse at right hand bottom in tray, like the one below:

Now to move the cursor, simply turn the NUM-LOCK on your keyboard ON and use the numeric pad to move the cursor. Key “5” on the numeric pad will work like a left-click, “8” will work as top, “2” as bottom, “4” as left and “6” as right.

When I start pc it show error message "Intel CPU uCode error" show on startup and show f1 to resume. When i press f1 window start without problem, but how can resolve this issue.

Most of the errors which are detected by the BIOS are displayed at the boot screen with an options to Press F1 key to continue and ignore that error. This error is one such error. There can be several reasons for this problem including:

Fix:

A bug in BIOS software can really goof up and show error like Intel CPU uCode Error. So in case you are getting such error, first thing we recommend is to upgrade the BIOS software to the latest version available online on the manufacturer’s website.

BIOS upgrade will solve the problem in about 95 % of cases. Rest 5 % can be because of hardware incompatibility like the FSB frequency of the Motherboard and Processor not matching properly, making one of them running in slow mode.

To check for hardware compatibility, check the user manual of Motherboard and see what models of CPU it supports. You need to ensure that the CPU you are using is fully compatible with the Motherboard that you are using,if not, then you need to replace on of them with the compatible component.

In this article we are going to tell you a free of cost and effective way of recovering a corrupt MS Office or Open Office Document. This can happen to a lot of us that an office document, a spreadsheet or a presentation file just refuses to open.  We have already written an article in which you can repair MS Office documents using MS Office. But sometimes, even that options might not work if the document is created in Open office etc. MS Office gives error saying “document can not be opened because there are problems with contents.” or saying “Word found unreadable Content in the document.”

A friend of mine shown me a document she made on Linux laptop using Open Office. She emailed that document to herself and tried to open on some windows machine for printing it. But the document was not opening with MS office. It looked something like this when opened:

When I saw these unreadable machine codes, the idea that stuck my mind was that I needed something that is capable to read MS Office and Open Office and other office documents well. So the natural answer was Google Documents.

Using Gmail Mailbox

Email the document to your google account as an attachment (not compressed), and open the attached document as google document. You get an option right at the bottom of mail as seen in the snapshot below:

This will open the document in a new window and open up most of the documents like MS Office document, excel sheets, presentations and Open office documents as well.

Upload Document To Google Docs

Open Google Docs Service and login using your Gmail id. On the interface of this service you can upload the document and open it there as seen in snapshot below:

After the file is uploaded, it will open up in the browser itself as seen below:

Using the File menu you can download this file as a word file or a pdf file etc as seen below:

We received a problem from one of our readers saying that whenever he tries to connect to Internet using his broadband modem, he gets an error saying:

Windows-System Error : There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network

See the image below, this notification usually appears at the bottom right corner in system tray.

The reason is very simple, as the error says, the IP address conflict is there, it means that there are more than one devices, modems or routers or laptops which exist at the same IP address as is your computer. In this post we are going to tell you how to diagnose and fix this issue.

Fix:

To fix this issue you first of all need to count the number of devices that are on the network which you use. By devices we mean, anything connected to the network through wires or wi-fi. These devices can be laptop, a computer, a wi-fi router, a broadband router, or any other device on LAN like an I-phone or any other wifi enabled phone.

All these devices when connect to the network, they all use an IP address, which can be assigned to them as and when they connect to network (through DHCP technology, recommended) or they can be allocated in a fixed fashion.

IP address conflict arises mostly in case of fixed IP address allocation, so to avoid such errors, you should use DHCP technology on your devices, or else, if you need to use fixed IP allocation because of some reasons, then make sure that each device has a unique IP address.

In this post, we tell you how to enable DHCP on your computer/laptops and enable the same on your wired or wireless router.

Enable DHCP On Router

Access your router by typing its IP address in the browser, typically its 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1, whichever is applicable to your router, and set the WAN settings to use Enable DHCP, the screen may vary in your case, but might look something like this:

This will make the router to assign the IP address to every new device that connects to it, but the device should also be using DHCP. To enable it, see the section below.

Automatic Assign IP On Computer

On Windows XP, go to Control Panel > Network Connections, right click on LAN connection and click properties.

For Windows Vista , go to Control Panel > Network Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections and right click on the LAN connection that you use

This will give you a Network Connection Properties window like one below:

Click on TCP/IPv4 and press the Properties button, this will open TCP/IPv4 properties windos as below:

Select the option with options “Obtain an IP address automatically” and restart your computer. This will fix the problem.

My Trancend 4GB pen-drive not working in my newly installed vista
ultimate ! And..but it is working in my friends vista ultimate.

We have provided various solutions for USB drive problems in our collection of Top 10 USB Drive Problems, however there is a Windows Vista Specific Problem which we are going to fix for you through this post.

This problems  arises when the service called “IDriverT”, which is responsible for detecting your newly attached devices and Install drivers for them somehow stops to work. Lets see how to fix it.

Fix:

To enable this service, follow these simple steps:

1. Press “Window Key + R”, this will open run prompt, type “msconfig” in it and press enter.

2. Above step will open System Configuration Window as seen below, on this windows press on Services tab.

3. In this windows Check the Service called “InstallDriver Table Manager” , click Apply and Ok. It may ask you to re-start your computer, restart it if it asks.

4. After restart, plug in the USB drive and give it a minute or so, it will recognize the pen-drive and will install it. If it does to install it even now, then follow the step 5 below to re-start the “IDriverT” service from task manager.

5. Press Shift+CTRL+ESC key together, it will open Task-Manager for you, on task manager, click on services Tab and locate the service named “IDriverT”, Right Click on it and Click Start Service.

We for a mail from a reader telling that the System Restore feature is not working on his new laptop, he wants to restore his computer to an older point, but he just can not do it because there are no old restore points created where he can restore to.

I checked that my new HP laptop also has the same problem. These new laptops or desktops come with standard system recovery disks or drive partitions which give you an options to restore your laptop or desktops to the factory settings. This sets your computer to a clean system deleting all your data, which can be a disaster in case you have some important data and system becomes un-stable. It is highly recommended to turn of system restore after you purchase your new laptop or desktop computer.

In this post we will tell you how you can enable system restore on your new Windows Vista or XP computer if it is not already enabled.

Fix:

We recommend you to enable the system restore for the drive which contains the Windows installation, for a typical computer, the partitions is C-drive, so just follow these simple steps to enable system restore on your C-drive partition.
