Readymade Attack Toolkits Increase Cyber Attacks And Cyber Crime – Study Reveals

by Rohit Khurana on January 26, 2011

Symantec has a security team which conducts in-depth research and analysis of the the cyber threats to stay aware and ready to counter latest cyber threat and attacks ongoing on the world wide web these days. A study report released by Symantec reveals a shocking truth which is not such a good news for security of computer’s data and privacy. With Identity thefts and Phishing Scams being so popular, we are all aware of the seriousness of any such cyber attack.

The study reveals that there are now Cyber Attack Toolkits available which are being used more often these days. This has attracted traditional criminals who would otherwise lack the technical expertise into cybercrime, fueling a self-sustaining, profitable, and increasingly organized global economy.

Key Findings of Study are :

  • Attack kits are more accessible, relatively easy to use, and are being utilized much more widely.
  • Attack kits are driving faster proliferation of attacks.
  • The profitability of attack kits has attracted criminals who would otherwise lack the technical expertise for cybercrime, fueling the growth of a self-sustaining, profitable, and increasingly organized global  underground economy.

These attackers exploit some of the websites and inject malicious code in these websites to steal data. They exploit vulnerabilities in the networked computers to install malicious codes on networked computers and gain access to the data on the computer and even control the affected computer in some cases.

Below info-graphics from Symantec explain how this works:

Here is a video to explain it more clearly :

We would suggest you to be alert while surfing Internet. Do not install suspicious programs and games from unknown sources. Keep your Operating System updated and your anti-virus program updates. Be cautious when opening email attachments from unknown sources.
