Facebook Phishing Scam Spreading –“Check it out here, Look at you hahaha”

by Rohit Khurana on January 25, 2011

From time to time we have been telling you about the attacks on Facebook and if you remember then most of the attacks are application based by which they access the information of your account and then they also access the right to post on your friends wall. After reading the title of this article you must have got an idea that this time it is something different from the usual Facebook spams. In this post I will be telling you about this new scam and what can you do if you fell into this scam on Facebook.

This scam states “Check it out here, Look at you hahaha” and this link will be occupied by a public image. Now after looking after looking at this scam you will attracted to it you would love to click it and check that image of your in public. Now let me tell you that you will be directed to a link which will be similar to the application link of Facebook i.e. apps.facebook.com. But then you will be directed to another page out of the Facebook domain where you will be asked to sign-in to the account of Facebook. That page is quite analogous to the Facebook login page and this page is not the authorized login page of the Facebook, so this simply means that it is the phishing website and it will get your credentials to login to your account and then publicize the their links again and again from your account to your friends. Moreover it can also do anything to your account.

So this threat is something very serious and you should stay away from it. But if you fall into the trap of this scam then I will suggest you to change your password as soon as possible and then delete any rogue session from your account settings. This will help you to stop the attack of the scam and please let your friends know about this new phishing scam on Facebook.
