Trouble:
Recently I purchased apple iPhone 3GS here in US, and got it jail-broken and unlocked with the help of abhishek, after jail-breaking my new iPhone 3gs was open to a great free world of some innovative applications on cydia repository.
Abhishek started suggesting some of the cool applications like SBsettings and Winterboard for my iphone 3gs with which I can customize my phone for better experience. After Installing Winterboard, it asked me to restart the device, but when I started it goes in into hanged state of showing the apple logo again and again.
As winterboard tweaked the springboard of my device which was not able to load after restart so it shows the apple logo while rebooting. This thing again happened due to my mistake as I did not read the requirements before installing winterboard as it require the latest version of mobile substrate.
After some searching on forums I come to know that the only option to fix this trouble was to put the phone in recovery mode and connect with iTunes and restore the phone and jailbreak and unlock again, here is how you can do the same if you are facing the same or similar issue with iPhone 3gs.
Fix:
I was almost stunned after seeing my new iphone 3gs in dead state, but after I fixed it with iTunes I was happy as it is not serious and I can do it anytime like this if in future I run into any problem on my iphone.
Follow the procedure to below to fix your hanged iPhone 3GS, 3G, 2G as this method works on all these generations of iPhones. Firstly make sure that your iphone is NOT connected to computer via USB data cable and iTunes is running.
Now you will need to switch off your iphone if it is not off or showing the apple logo.
Power Off Your iPhone
Note: If your iphone is powered on or showing the apple logo on the iphone screen go to
Step 1
1. Hold the Power / Sleep / Wake button + Home button to power off and release both the button before it boots again and shows the iphone logo
Note: If your iphone if already powered off skip the step 1
Connect To iTunes In Recovery Mode
2. Now iTunes must be running and now hold down the home button and connect your iphone to your computer with USB data cable, iTunes will detect your iphone your iphone in the recovery mode to restore the phone with the original firmware you will need to download.
Just restore the phone with the iphone firmware you downloaded from apple, and you iphone is now fixed and working again

hi, wen i turn my iphone on it just goes to the apple icon and then after 10-15 secs turns off again. I tried to start the recovery mode but its not working???? any help?

Remember to follow the instructions:
1. Make sure cable is disconnected
2. Power off
3. Start itunes
4. press the Home button (keep it pressed)
5. put in the cable
6. follow instruction from itunes!
by doing this wont it install latest firmware which wont let you jailbrak it?
Well a new trick to fix this phone if you have some patience and don’t want to lose your battery is to have your iTunes open and keep unplugging and plugging the iPhone into your computer and after 15 minutes the phone will book back to normal. I’ve tried it recently on my iPhone and my friend has tried it too and it worked great.

hi, i got a new iphone 3gs from US to india with a jail break done, i think it was unlocked cause my indian simcard was working in it… my friend wanted to delete his contacts which he had stored by mistake.. so he reset the phone… now it is stuck on the main screen with the apple logo n loading sign.. now i have kept it on restore n update as mentioned up.. but will it get locked again.. as it is updating since there is no other choice.. and my phone was totally updated whn i got it yesterday.. please temme i m too tensed…

If the phone software crashes, it may take upto 10 minutes to restart and will keep showing the apple logo at the startup screen for sometime.
The below method may work for you, it did when my phone crashed few days back :
connect the iPhone to the wall-charger, when it is still connected to charger, press home and lock button together, apple logo will show up, leave both the buttons and keep the phone in this state while it takes its time to start, if all goes well, it will restart in 10 to 15 minutes itself.
this may or may not work for your phone, it worked with my phone, which is also an iPhone 3GS from US, working fine in India.
Natalie ur the best! did it and it went to sad iPhone, but then i deleted the cydia app that caused this, (well actually the upgrade) and it worked like a charm! thx alot!
i just did a reset on my 3g and now its stuck on the pineapple logo. it was unlocked before i did the reset and ive tried everything and i cant get this thing to work. any tips?

i had previously installed the Spirit JB as well as the Winterboard and Cydia app – and when I did a restart to factory settings, all i got was the apple logo and the ‘thinking circle’ that lasted for over 6 hours. think it was the above apps that prevented it from rebooting/restarting.
just to add, that if you have installed the jailbreak apps and are trying to restore using the steps above and itunes still doesn’t let you, you must make sure that your itunes is the latest version and that you have the latest iphone OS uploaded – it should then allow you to do the full restore.

hey, i was unlocking my 3gs 4.2.1 version by convertin it to baseband 6:15 it succesfully gt converted bt later wen i was suppose to install ultra snow n wen i completely did it asked me to reboot my device n i did so… bt nw its hanged on apple logo n after ever 5 mins screen go blank n apple logo comes bak…. can any1 plz help me???plzzzzzzzzz
i accidently delete the winter board application from my iphone 3gs now my iphone stuck in apple logo. i cannot access anything ..please help me if you have any solution for it. and other thing even the itunes doesnot recognize my iphone.

hey guys I have a solution without having your iphone restored.
–> First download ifunbox and launch it.
–> connect the phone
–> go to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries and delete the rotate files (if you know the file name because of which this problem occur, just delete those files otherwise delete all)
–> Now restart your phone and DONE !

i have the same problem its stuck on apple logo i restore my fone three times still wont work and when i plug my fone into i tunes and try to access my apps from there it freezes my itunes my fone has turn on twice in the past week and froze everytime i need help i cant afford my fone being broken its not jail broken all i did when it froze was answer my fone when i was playing a game on the fone and when i hung up it just froze so i shut it off and what do u know the apple of dooom
hey guys, actually my iphone is wrkin good when not locked BUT whenever i lock my iphone after 5 min it goes on in the dead mode. ANY SUGGESTIONS
What if u put it on itunes in recovery mode u do the entire download and at the very end of the download u get an error message and it didnt help ur phone at all is there any other way 2 get ur phone 2 work again without goin 2 the apple store??
I have the same problem but my iphone wont bloody turn off at all its just there with the logo
pleaseee pleaseee help… when i put i take it off the charger or whatever it has the logo or drained battery the logo will just stay there until the battery is drained

i am having pretty much similar problem.my phone shows apple logo when it is connected to wall socket charge.and when i pressed sllep/wake button+home key …it showed connect to itune logo. but as soon as i talke it out from the socket charger..every thing goes blank. it wont connect to pc either…

i made some downloads via cydia….it asked me to restart my phone…when i restarted it, it got stuck on the apple logo with white circle…i searched through various solutions….but the real problem is that i cannot restore it because the phone is not detected by itunes….moreover, when i connect the phone with usb cable, computer wont recognize it, rather it said the device is malfunctioned and something like that…please help me…what should i do

Hi, I have an iPhone 3g that kept restarting itself and read in a different forum to take the SIM card off (with iPhone on), turn the network options OFF (or ON) – 3G Cellular data, etc,- and then back ON (or OFF) put SIm card back, turn network options OFF (or ON) and back ON (or OFF) again, problem fixed! Like magic! without restoring and/or losing andy data. Highly recommend it!

Is there any way to restore iPhone in iOS 5.0.1 (which is my current iOS in my phone) and not 5.1? Because while following the steps above, iTunes prompted to automatically restore my phone with iOS 5.1 and I have heard that it is not recommendable to upgrade to iOS 5.1 up to now because they said it is not stable yet. Please respond. Thanks

@Awais open your itunes and plug your iphone to your pc then press the home button for 10 seconds it should get the recovery mode so now click on restore and thats it, it worked for me.
i have an iphone 2g with ios 3.1.3 when i coonect it to my pc while the phone is switched on automatically it reeboots itself!
