Hide Website Browsing Information From Facebook

by Rohit Khurana on November 1, 2010

In recent times Facebook has grabbed so much popularity and has become one of the mostly used social networking sites. It has provided a wide range of features to its users that they do not go anywhere. Also, it has provided various security features that people do not hesitate in sharing their personal information, photos and more. Users do not have a single doubt about its security features.

But, most of us will not be knowing that whenever we visit any of the  site on the web that use Facebook Connect then, Facebook is notified about it. Thus, Facebook has a history of leaking personally identifiable information to third parties. Since, every second site we visit is Facebook connected in today’s time due to the popularity of Facebook so, the risk of leaking your personal information has increased.

Considering this problem, there is a Google chrome extension called Facebook Disconnect which will turn off the flow of your data to Facebook.

Facebook Connect is a smart extension which is especially designed to perform this specific task. When you will install it, it will ask for the access of data on all websites. You just have to select ‘Install’ and within a few seconds it will be installed.

For elaboration, see below, there is a site troublefixers.com which is Facebook connected so, you can see the people who have liked that on Facebook, it means the site has the history which can be leaked to third parties.

And, after you will install this extension, it will block all traffic from third-party sites to Facebook servers, but still lets you access Facebook itself and the space will be blank just like this.

If you want to disable the extension for few days, you do not have to uninstall it but just use the ‘disable’ button in the extensions window.

You can also allow this extension to run in incognito window by just enabling the option ‘Allow in incognito’ and its done. But, chrome will not be able to prevent this extension form recording your history so, just take care about it.
