The drive just says ‘no media’ Have you got a fix? I can see the properties which says 0 space written, 0 space available. I can change the drive letter but it does not solve the problem.

mygif
Derron says, August 11th, 2009

None of the solutions worked for me either. Changing the drive name didn’t do any good. (This only works if you had that drive letter is mapped; or used by some other drive already. I tryed it anyway and sure enough it does not work.) When I tryed to reformat, it thinks it’s a CD or DVD ROM Drive… and won’t format it because computer thinks there is no disk (CD or DVD) in drive. Still looking for ways to fix it… if it’s even possible. Please post solution if anyone finds a way!

Dave says, October 8th, 2009

My experience with fixing this, nothing worked until I tried changing the drive letter. This change took, but I still got an error. But I left the drive plugged in and after about half an hour, something must have timed out and presto, I got the popup asking me what I wanted to do with the drive (open files, play media, etc) that I always get on insertion.

Note, once you have the drive working, write something to it and do a proper disconnect, otherwise you may have to repeat this fix next time you plug it in.

Hi All, recently I’ve purchased HP 8GB v155w pendrive, from last one day I’m facing the same problem as mentioned by most of users.
I’ve workout something to diagnose this issue and feel due to some reason (either hardware or virus) it’s file system got currupted (something like MBR corrupt in HDD).
Whenever I inster my Flash Drive, XP show “USBest USB2FlashStorage USB Device” hardware found and installed successfully, but when my Flash Drive was working fine, it was showing “HP V155W USB Device” found. Same was showing if I’m going to Device manager and selecting Generic Device and checking the Properties. so it seems, it’s internal default file system got corrupted and Manufacturer can only do something as there no such utility I found to fix this issue.

Lankas says, January 15th, 2010

Its because the file system is corrupt. Its not in all cases that opening throws out the error captured in the graphic above is a drive letter conflict. If you get to a lower version, may be 98 which will certainly manage to open.. you can format your pen drive to restore the file system. This has worked for me before, but this time around.. I don’t know where I can get Win 98.

i was getting the “please insert disc” message on my LAPTOP and i fixed it as follows:

1. Purchase an “optical lens cleaner”, they are a disc with a series of tiny brushes.
2. According to the instructions, you must insert the disc and press “play” but of course, your drive will not recognize that there is a disc in the drive!
3. take a clean finger and gently turn the cleaning disc on it axis for a minute.
4. push the disc into the drive and if you have my luck, it will start to play!
