While surfing internet, we come across many malicious sites which try to take control of our computers. We use many security softwares as a precautionary measures to keep our system safe from these kinds of spywares.
But still there are some software called Bots that can secretly take control of our computers and make them participate in networks called Botnets. Millions of computers have already joined Botnets without the knowledge of their owners. Your computer can be one of them.
By using remotely-controlled computers, the criminals in charge of the Botnets try to escape from the authorities seeking to prosecute them by remaining anonymous. These networks can harness massive computing power and Internet bandwidth to relay spam, attack web servers, infect more computers, and perform other illicit activities.
So, for monitoring your computer for infection associated with bots, there is a freeware called RUBotted which will prompt you to scan and clean your computer upon discovering a potential infection.
RUBotted is compatible with windows 7, vista, 2003 server, xp (Home or professional) and 2000 professional. It is designed to supplement existing security software. You do not need to install or remove any other programs before putting RUBotted to work.
NOTE: RUBotted cannot protect computers running Panda Internet Security 2008.
The installation of the application will just take few minutes and after that you have to do nothing because RUBotted works in the background, checking for signs of Bots on your computer with this icon in the icon tray.
If RUBotted notices any suspicious behavior associated with Bots, it will alert you otherwise will show this window when you will open it.
You can view the log window for checking the details of all suspicious activities detected during the past 45 days.
You can also set the monitoring settings in the option of ‘settings’. You can choose to monitor either Http incoming, Irc request, Dns query or all of them.
To use RUBotted, you should have a working Internet connection. If your computer connects to the Internet through a home network, RUBotted can use your current network settings automatically. If your computer connects to the Internet through a proxy server, you have to put your account information in the space provided otherwise you can leave the space blank.
You can also stop this application running in the background by just using the option of ‘Stop RUBusted’ very easily.
NOTE: You must scan and clean your computer with an effective antivirus program to remove bots because RUBotted will only prompt you about them.
