[How To] Hide A File or Folder And Put Password Lock On it

We have seen many freeware tools to hide files and folder or lock them for security purpose, but in this article we bring you a tool which not only hides filed and folders securely, but also puts a password security on it to unhide the files and folders hidden using it.

The freeware we are going to review in this article is called “WinMend Folder Hidden” and can ne used with Pen drives also for hiding data on a pen drive with password protection. Follow the below steps to hide and password protect files and folders in Windows.

Step 1: Download and install WinMend Folder Hidden tool from here.

For the first time you will run this tool after installation, it will ask you to set a password. Be very careful about it as it will not start next time until you give it the right password and you may yourself loose access to your own files and folders you lock !

Step 2 : Simply start the WinMend Folder Hidden Tool and select the files and folder to hide from the buttons provided on the top right pane on the Window.

Step 3: Select the File and Folder added on the Left side and click – “Set To Hide” or “Unhide” buttons provided on this tool. The status written in front of the file shows you whether the file is visible of hidden.

In out tests, we hide a folder and the folder disappears from the Windows Explorer view after we set it to hide.

On further analysis, we Changes Windows settings to show us the hidden and system files, but the folder was not there even in the hidden format, however there was a new Folder created by WinMend which was not opening properly with default Windows explorer, this means that this tool is not easy to break into and the files hidden using this tool are quite safe for general purpose users.

I tried WinMend but it did not uninstall cleanly. It left some files in its install folder but also left a hidden folder structure on every drive. The second is little harder to get rid of…
