The startup time of your computer will increase if you have large number of fonts installed on your system. This is the reason why the number of fonts installed on the system is kept to a minimum. You may use some fonts of all fonts installed on your system if you are using your computer only for basic use. In case you use your computer designing, making presentation and documentation then you will require a more number of fonts than you would require in the earlier case. Today I have got an application named Font Load-Unload which is a freeware and it will help you to load the fonts without installing them on your computer or laptop.

The fonts that are loaded in the application are accessible in a way as if they are installed on your system without actually installing them. Fonts that are loaded in this way can be accessed in a way as if they are installed on the system until you are logged in to your windows account i.e. you don’t log off, restart or shutdown your system.

This is the first window that will open when you will run the software for the first time after downloading and installing it. The software doesn’t require installation and will run directly from the exe file which you will get after extracting the ZIP file. The application has the option to show you the fonts in two views i.e. Load Loaded Fonts List and Font Registry View. You can load a font into the application simply by dragging the font and dropping it onto the load button in the application or you can click on the LOAD button in the application and it will open a browse window for you and now you can simply go to the location in your computer to load the fonts. Once you load a font in this application it will become accessible like any other font that is installed on the system. The fonts can also be unloaded by selecting them and clicking on the UNLOAD button. The application can also save the list of all the fonts that are loaded in this session so that you can use the same list to load the fonts in the later sessions. The main advantage of the application is that it will add the fonts to your system temporarily. And you will not have to go through the headache of installing the fonts remembering which font you have installed and then uninstalling it.

The problem with this application is that you can’t see how the fonts look like. If you have thousand of fonts this can be a problem.
I have used a very simple solution to use fonts without installing them, mostly for Photoshop. First I open a Font Manager, I use Typograf, but others work also, and browse through my font collection. When I find the one I want I click on it to select it (not install it). Then I open Photoshop and that font is in my font list. Most of the time all of the other fonts in the same folder will be available to. Therefor I have split my collection into many folders. When I need the next font I go to Typograf and select that font and it will be available in Photoshop without restarting it.
