Check closely if the wires inside the cabinet which connects the front panel to the motherborad are connected or not. Also try look for settings in the sound drivers software regarding the same. unfortunately the interface of different drivers is quite different from each other, so can't guide you exactly what options to check. On an approximate note, look for an option like "Enable / Disable Frontal Mic Detection", try to tun on/off this option and see whether it works for you?

ok I reformatted my computer because I had done that before and installed the driver for my soundcard and it worked. This gets time consuming doing it every two months.

My computer tells me there is no jack information availible. I have downloaded the driver from an updated source but my computer is not recognizing I have an input jack. Please help I am going nuts. And per your answer up there I could not find a box that you could check front or rear. I am assuming it is because my computer is not recognizing I have jacks at all?

My speakers work fine no worries there but no matter how hard I try I have no mic.
