Norton Internet Security 2011 Giveaway And Complete Review–Winners Announced

We have previously reviewed some of the popular Norton security products like Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton 360. In this post we will review the latest Norton Internet security Product called Norton Internet Security 2011. We will also be giving away 4 free licenses sponsored by Norton India. Norton Internet Security 2011 has some really innovative and useful features like it can scan your Facebook wall for any Malicious links !

We have been using Norton Internet security for past few days on our Windows 7 Laptop running 32 bit version of Windows 7. We will walk you through the installation, features and other important details from a users point of view. At the end of the article, we will share the rules to participate in the giveaway to win a 1 year single user license of Norton IS 2011 worth Rs. 1534.

Below is the installation screen when you insert the installer disk and run the setup program. This disk gives you an option to run Norton Bootable Recovery tool which can be used in case of severe virus infections.

Once you start the installation, it will validate your product key, you will find this on the yellow sticker on the Disk cover.

After successful installation, you will see a success message screen as below:

After installation is complete, it will prompt you to create an online Norton account. We recommend that you create this account as this will help you with the online support and will send you renewal reminders and other important information via email if needed.

The online account displays your registered Norton products along with the license and expiry information.

This is how the program screen looks. Quite neat and single page with all the needed options at one screen. There are also toggle buttons to turn on or off the features you want like Insight Protection, Antivirus, Anti Spyware, Firewall, Browser Protection etc..

To change the settings, click on the settings link on the main program screen and it will launch another Settings Window. It has been broadly divided into 5 sections :

• Computer Settings
• Network Settings
• Web Settings
• Miscellaneous Settings
• Parental Control

Under these settings you can control the functioning like the virus and spyware scanning preferences, Network related settings like blocking certain network traffic, controlling firewall etc. In Web settings you can control Web Safe plugins which help you keep safe while browsing Internet, it also has preferences for identity protection, safe surfing etc..

Another import feature which we like about Norton is that it shows you the PC performance and impact of Norton Internet security on the performance. Most people believe that antivirus programs reduce the performance of the computer, which is true, but with Norton products, you can actually see the extent to which it is actually affecting the performance. As per our experience with Norton products, the newer products (Norton Internet Security 2010 onwards) put little  affect on you computer performance. Unless your PC configuration is very low, it won’t bother you much.

On performance screens you can see the memory and CPU usage by Norton and other programs running on computer.

Norton Insight is a useful feature, it helps you see what programs are running and reliability rating of each of these programs along with the trust levels, resource usage etc..

Norton Identity Safe helps you create your profiles and keep information related to login names, passwords and other financial information safe at one place. It ensures that your information does not go on any rouge or fake websites.

Live update feature will keep your program and definitions up to date and will protect your from even the very recent cyber threats.

Security history shows you the  events logged by Norton related to security breach or some kind of attack on your computer.

Norton Internet Security 2011 gives you the following scanning options :

Computer Scan – Scans files and folders for any kind of infection or attack.

Reputation Scan – Scans the trust levels of the programs running on your computer, this helps you identify suspicious programs and tools about which you should be cautious.

Facebook Scan – This is the most innovative and unique feature about this tool. It will scan your  Facebook wall for any malicious links. With all the Facebook scams and spam links circulating like – “You Can See Who Viewed Your Profile” attack, Facebook ClickJacking Attack ; this feature will keep you safe from any unforeseen threat spreading via Facebook.

It also has an in-built Norton Safe Web App which will scan any URL for you. It will flag any malicious or suspicious website so that you don’t accidently open pages which may infect the computer or steal your information.

The backup feature is also integrated with it which uses Norton Backup. This backup account is a Norton cloud storage account. You get this backup account for free with some of the Norton products like Norton 360, not included with Norton Internet Security 2011 as of now.

You can also use this sidebar gadget in Windows Vista or Windows 7 which will show you the Norton Status all the time on your desktop.
