Windows 8 is a new version of OS introduced after Windows 7 which took it to a new level with Metro UI which runs smooth with touch based devices including tablets, touch screen desktop and laptops which are getting more popular these days. One of the problems which I recently faced with one of the new computer in my office after installing Windows 8 on it was related to sharing folder and files. The new PC, which has Windows 8 newly installed, is not able to access files and folders on the office network even when it is on the same network. In this article, I will share the steps you need to follow to make shared folders work on network with Windows 8 PC. We already shared a related article on sharing the folders on Windows 8 with other computers, so follow the steps provided there to make sure that you have opened the network file sharing options.
So when you set up file sharing on Windows 8 PC, you may still get access is denied errors when you access folders shared by other computers on the same network especially on Windows 7 platform. To enable the same, you need to join the homegroup on your Windows 7 PC network.
To access the same, you need to go to Computer > Home Group on your Windows 8 PC and one of your Windows 7 PCs. On Windows 8 PC, select the option to join an existing homegroup and on the Window 7 PC, go to Homegroup settings and check the homegroup password. Use the same password and enter it on the Windows 8 PC.
After you do this you will have to log out and log in again for the changes to take effect. After its done, you will be able to access shared folders on network from your Windows 8 PC.
