Trouble:
In this post we are going to share with you one simple but crucial windows setting for proper file sharing to work between Windows computers.
We (the troublefixers, Rohit and Abhishek), were working on weekend on some site-upgrade work last weekend. We were working on two different computers (one on Windows XP other on Windows Vista) on same LAN, sharing same Internet connection.
Abhishek tried to access some file on my computer (Windows XP machine) from his computer(Windows Vista Machine) but he got error denying him any access. He told me that he has recently formatted the XP machine after which the file sharing is not working.
Lets see how you can set the LAN settings to allow use of file sharing.
Fix:
The fix is really simple, go to Control Panel > Network Connections
Double Click to open Local Area Connection in use, that you are using for file sharing.
This will open the Local Area Connection Status, on this window click on Properties
On this Local Area Properties Window Check the option for File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and press OK.
That’s it, done! Please leave your comments or suggestions below.

Really nice advice for me , It working properly
I’m having a similar issue where I reinstalled the OS (Vista Baisc) of one of my systems, and now I cannot file share.
To keep things easy, I reinstalled the OS for what I’ll call the Living room system, I also have 2 xbox 360s and 2 bedroom PC’s.
My bedroom PC (running Vista Home Premium) see’s all devices and can connect to them, however I cannot file share (not even to the public folders! It tells me that I need permission and asks to try again.
The living room system (the formated system), shows all devices connected, except mine? But like I said, ,my system can see and connect to it!?
Niether xbox 360 is about to connect to my system for media sharing, but is able to connect to the living room system!?
Like stated, this all statred immediately after reinstalling the OS to that living room system.
Got any ideas? I’ve tried a lot of troubleshooting, even the steps above before even reading about it.
