Security is one of the major concerns of all the users irrespective of the domain in which they work. There are various ways by which one can ensure the security for the data which is present in different files in the computer. Encryption-Decryption is one of those techniques which is quite popular. But, the complexity which is involved in this technique doesn’t allow its users to apply it in a simpler way. Now, if we look into the detailed context of this technique then we may observe that there are number of ways which allows the user to encrypt the private files and information. Some of those ways are TrueCrypt which works on both Windows and Linux, or BitLocker which has been specially designed for only Windows. But as said, they are complex methods and if you at all want a less complicated method for encrypting your files, then here we are discussing about an open source tool which allows you to easily encrypt and decrypt files by simply using the context menu.
Lazar Crypter is basically a small, easy to use and a pretty useful tool that provides encryption and decryption options on the context menu and that too without involving any complexity from the user’s perspective. It can be simply downloaded from the below given link and after installing it in your computers, you may see that it simply adds a Lazar Crypter submenu to the Windows context menu, providing a quick way to encrypt and decrypt files from within Windows Explorer and thus making it a very simple process.
In order to encrypt any of your file, you just need to right-click on that particular file and select Encrypt from the Lazar Crypter submenu. This is also valid for multiple files and for this you just need to select multiple files to encrypt at the same time, as long as you want to apply the same password to all the files. Once you click on it, you may observe that the Encrypt dialog box displays. Here, you need to enter a password in the Enter password edit box and enter the same password again in the Re-enter password edit box. After this, just click Start and rest will be taken care by the utility itself.
After the encryption completes, you may observe that the original file is replaced with an encrypted version of the file with the .lcr extension added after the file’s original extension which shows that it is a lazar encrypted file. Now, the reverse of this process is also important as by decryption only you can get your encrypted data back. So, in order to decrypt a file, right-click on the encrypted .lcr file and select Decrypt from the Lazar Crypter submenu which is exactly similar to the steps involved in encryption. You can also double-click on the file to decrypt it and open it. One thing that must be noted here is that you cannot decrypt multiple files at the same time. For decryption, you need to decrypt one file at a time.
It also provides you some more options. Such as, in order to check the integrity of your encrypted file, you need to right-click on the file and select Integrity check from the Lazar Crypter submenu. If you want to use same password for all the files, you can set a default password that will automatically be used when you encrypt files using Lazar Crypter. In order to set this default password, you need to select the Set default password shortcut on the Start menu and then enter the password.
So, overall we can say that Lazar Crypter is a small yet very powerful way of providing a quick and easy method for encrypting and decrypting files. So, just download it and try it on your own.
