Trouble:
One of our readers sent me this query asking :
There i an icon of a floppy drive under My Computer. But i do not have a floppy drive. Please help me remove the icon.
This problem is because of default BIOS settings of some of the motherboards which assume that there will be a floppy drive present by default. As most of the new computers today don’t have a Floppy Disk Drive installed, the icon of Floppy dive (A:) may still appear.
To fix this problem, you need to change the BIOS settings.
Fix:
To fix this problem, Shutdown you computer and Turn it on again. As soon as you power it on, keep pressing delete button on your keyboard until you see the BIOS screen something like this :
NOTE: The BIOS screen may looks different on your computer depending on the make of the motherboard and version of BIOS software.
Press enter at “Standard CMOS Features” this will show you a screen with data about Disk drives installed on your computer which includes the hard disk drives, DVD / CD Drives, Floppy Disk Drives etc.
Press Enter at the Drive A (Floppy Disk Drive) setting, it will show you options to change setting. From the options below, select option “None” using arrow keys and then press enter.
Press Esc Key to go to the main menu, select the option to “Save & Exit Setup”, press enter to select this option.
It may ask you a confirmation message like one below “SAVE to CMOS and EXIT (Y/N)?” , at this message, type Y and press enter key.
After a few seconds, your computer will re-start and your floppy drive icon from My Computer will be gone.
NOTE : This setting can be done on a computer which already has a floppy drive to disable the use of Floppy Disk Drive.
