Scan Network Ports, Remote Processes And Run Network Security Audit

by Rohit Khurana on September 15, 2010

Whenever your computer is attached within a LAN, you being the network administrator have to manage the network. But LanSpy can ease this work if installed in your computer. It is a simple and easy to use program which is a set of network utilities brought together to help network administrators maintain and manage their networks.

It also includes a fast port scanner which displays services using open ports on remote computer saving the time which one has to spend on checking the different ports individually.

This utility is mainly used in auditing your network for security reason issues, for viewing processes on remote computers, for showing list of installed application on workstations and detecting shares, open ports and user accounts.

It is fully compatible with Windows 7, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003

LanSpy gathers following information about a remote computer:

  • Ping
  • Domain name
  • NetBios names
  • MAC address
  • Server information
  • Domain (workgroup) information
  • Domain controllers
  • Remote control
  • Time
  • Disks
  • Transports
  • Users
  • Logged users
  • Global groups
  • Local groups
  • Security options
  • Shared resources
  • Sessions
  • Open files
  • Services
  • Processes
  • Registry
  • Event log
  • TCP port scanner
  • UDP port scanner

Any of the above information can be made hidden by going to the option ‘operations’ in the ‘options’ and unmarking the box if it is not required. For example, if i have to remove the information of disks then i will just unmark the box of ‘disks’ and then it will not be included in the scanning process.

It also provides the option of saving the details of remote computer to HTML.

There is an important option of ‘execute command’ which allows you to work in cmd directly and check for your connected devices. For example, if i have to ping that remote computer then, i just have to click this option and it will start pinging within no time.

LanSpy also allows you to set password so that you can keep your information secret from your friends. This feature is provided by the option ‘authentication’ in the ‘options’.

While scanning for one remote computer, it provides you the feature of starting another LanSpy simultaneously that is you can scan for two remote computers at one time.

Likewise, there are different ways under each option that are self-explanatory by which you can personalize your network manager which is the best part of using LanSpy.
