Share Screen Capture A Region Of Webpage In Google Chrome

by Rohit Khurana on October 31, 2010

Many a times, we all need to take screenshots of our screen (either a region or a whole page) for presentations, making articles and others. For this, most of us use either shortcuts using the keyboard or any specialized tools like Snagit, Ducklink and SliQ. But these tools are not of much help while capturing web pages. These tools only allow us to take the capture of one screen and not the full web page. So, we have to take individual shots for different screens by scrolling down which is very difficult and time consuming as well.

Considering this problem, Google has come up with an extension called Screen Capture which allows you to capture large pages very fast.

Screen Capture allow you to capture visible content of a tab, a region of a web page, or the whole page as a PNG image which is a lossless format for saving an image file. It also supports horizontal and vertical scroll when capturing whole page which is a very unique feature and makes it different from other tools. When you will install it, it will ask you the access to the data on your computer and websites you visit. You just have to select ‘Install’.

After that, it will be installed in just a few seconds and will appear with this icon in the toolbar menu.

Now, for capturing the web page, just click on the icon and it will show you the 3 options – capture visible content, region, whole page. Just select the desired option and its done.

The extension also provides the option of editing your captured image before saving it as a PNG image. after your capture, it will open the editing window where there will be present 4 options- Highlighting, redacting, adding text and line at the top-left of window.

This extension also provides the auto-save capability. The destination of the saved pictures can be managed in the ‘options’ of the extension. Here, you are also given the option of setting the quality of your shots either lossless or lossy. You can also bypass the editing and directly save the captured image to the default location with the web page title as default file name by enabling the option of ‘Autosave’.

In short, it is a smart extension which gives a good competition to the screen capturing tools.
