Check Unread Mails In Gmail Inbox Quickly

by Rohit Khurana on January 3, 2011

I am a Gmail user and I have a habit of keeping some of the emails as unread in my Gmail inbox. I do it to keep it as a reminder of some task or pending activity related to that email. With time, the inbox keep getting more mails and the old unread mails go on the page 2, page 3 or even far behind and it becomes hard to locate unread mails. In case you are facing similar problems in locating old unread emails in Gmail, I will share a very handy trick to do the same in this post.

To locate and list all the emails in your Gmail account, type the following text in the search box at the top of the Gmail web interface when you are logged in to your Gmail account:

This will list all the unread emails from your Gmail account. However, if you use labels and archive your mail like me, you need to put additional search parameter. Use the below parameters for search:

is:unread in:inbox

The above query will filter out all the emails in archives, trash or elsewhere and will show only emails from the Inbox folder of the Gmail.

The above trick is very simple and handy, some of you might have used it already, if you have not used it, I am sure you will find it useful.
