One of our reader named rahul reported us this issue in which when suddenly some days back he booted up his windows 8 pc the only thing he could see is the black screen there was no desktop or start screen which appeared, he also pressed window + d to show the desktop considering some metro app is running in full screen which may not be quitting. In such case the best way to get rid of this is to launch task manager and kill the specific process which might be causing it, below are some solutions you can adopt to fix this issue.

black screen with blinking cursor

Display Driver Causing Black Screen

If it is happening because of the display driver then you will need to update the graphic drivers, for this you will need to reboot the pc on safe mode and reinstall the drivers. Make sure to update your PC with the latest drivers which you can download from the mother board manufacturer website or in case you don’t find the latest drivers, try updating the old working display drivers you have.

Reboot in Safe Mode To Check To Error

When your computer does not wake up then also it may show black screen, so simply start your computer and hit either the F2, Del, or sometimes the F10 or F8 key on the keyboard. When you enter Safe mode you should then shut your computer down correctly. Once you reboot your PC you should check event viewer to check for any error recorded the same time you tried to start your PC and faced black screen.

USB Flash Drive Connected To Your PC

If you see a black screen with blinking cursor, it might be because you are trying to boot a pc which might have a USB flash drive connected and it is trying to boot from the flash drive considering it’s a bootable device so please remove any USB storage device connected and try booting the machine again and before doing this also try removing the CD if there is any CD or DVD in CD/DVD rom.
