This post is related to the Windows Live Writer or WLW. It is a widely used desktop client for Windows for writing and publishing blogs. I use it for WordPress blogs and it is an excellent client. One of the very pleasing features of WLW is that it can download the editing template of the WordPress Blog on to you computer so that you can get a feel of the borders and templates on your screen even before publishing. It helps a lot to place text and images in a correct way.
Until now, every time you update your WordPress theme and you want to download the latest template to WLW, the WLW used to publish a temporary post for theme detection. This post usually gets in the RSS feeds etc. which looks very unprofessional.
In this article, I will share how you can download the latest editing template or update your WordPress theme on WLW without publishing a temporary post.
This is how a temporary post for theme detection looks like.
This problem comes when you update your Windows Live Writer editing Template by clicking Blogs > Edit Blog Settings > Editing > Refresh Theme
It will show a dialogue box asking permission to publish a Temporary Post For Theme Detection.
This problem has been fixed recently by Microsoft for Windows Live Writer and they have relapsed the latest version for download. I have updated it today only and have refreshed my Blog There in WLW without publishing a temporary post on my blog.
When you open Windows Live Writer, it will show you an option to upgrade like the one below. If you don’t get this option, click on Help > Check For Updates. Even if that does not work, you can simply download the web installer for Windows Live Writer here.
My Windows Live Writer has been updated today on 21 May 2010 on to the latest version : Build : 14.0.8116.416 en from old version : Build : 14.0.8089.726 en
After updating to this version, I can successfully download the latest template of my WordPress Theme on my blog to Windows Live Writer without need to publish any Temporary Post. In fact, this version won’t even ask you any permission to do so as it is no more required. So don’t wait, upgrade your Windows Live Writer to the latest version.
