Trouble:
Symantec Antivirus Live Update has a problem of hang at 99% in Windows Vista. The live update is launched, download is done, and after I pressed Finish button, it gave a small pop-up window showing a progress-bar saying “Updating Virus Protection Files”, this progress bar hangs at 99% and remains at 99% for ever, I have to manually end the process, it becomes not responding.

I tried to find a way out, and it worked for me, in this post I am going to share the method by which I solved this issue.
Fix:
I follows the below three steps, it fixed my problem:
Update Live Update Applicaiton
Download the latest version of Symantec Live update Application from the link below:
After this, install this version over your existing version of Symantec Live Update.
Change Symantec Live Update Settings
Go to Start > Control Panel > Live Update and change the General settings to Express Mode mode from interactive mode, and in Automatic Live Update to Automatic Mode. See the snapshots below:
Turn Off Tamper Protection
Goto Configuration > Tamper Protection and Turn off the Tamper Protection by Un-checking “Enable Tamper Protection” as shown below:
After this, restart the computer, and if you are lucky like me, it will not hang. If you still face this problem, leave a comment below.

Yes! Worked also for me! Was looking for months for a solution! Thank you!
I have followed the steps mentioned above. After that it is able to update it to 100%. But after that it is showing the old date of virus definition.
Can you please help me?
This did not work for me but it did put me on the right path.
I turned on “enhanced error support” under the Live Update General tab. I also, strangely enough, turned off the enable auto-protect (available by right clicking the system tray icon). After these two things, I updated near instantly, instead of slowly building up to hanging at 99%. I have since turned back on real time protection.
Thanks for the direction to the control panel settings for Symantec Live Update. I found it really helpful.
Oops, I meant I have since turned back on “enable auto-protect” not real time protection.
thanks u , i’m looking for this solution
I don’t have a Automatic Live Update tab
