KillAutorun is a free to use program which prevents the infection of autorun viruses in your pen drives, and local drives on your hard disk on your computer. It creates a folder named AUTORUN.INF and backup autorun.inf files before deletion.

In order to protect all drives, click the option which says Create folder named AUTORUN.INF files in each drive in root directory.

After selecting the checkbox, click the button to scan all drives now and place the fake AUTORUN.INF folders so that virus files could not be created or copied.

Key Features

Disabling automatic execution of autorun script upon insertion of removable device.

Automatic deletion of autorun.inf file from your removable drive upon insertion. This is done to prevent accidental invocation of autorun script by double-clicking drive’s icon from Windows Explorer.

KillAutorun is recommended for Windows user who often logged in to their computer as administrative user.

Note: Once you run this program it will be displayed in the taskbar only, so you need to locate and click options to use it. You can also use KillAutorun on Vista and 7 but some features might not work due to UAC.

We had already written a lot on autorun.inf viruses and also discussed various tools which lets you remove them or protect your computer from these autorun.inf viruses. Autorun Exterminator is quite small program which runs itself in system tray and protect your computer real time from autorun viruses.

AutoRunExterminator is another free tool which protects your computer real time against various types of virus which use autorun.inf files to infect your computer through USB data drives and other portable devices like ipod, mp3 player etc.

Let’s see how does this software works to protect your computer against autorun.inf viruses

Fix:

This small software monitors all the permanent and removable drives for the existence of autorun.inf files in the root drive. When ever it finds a file with this name it automatically deletes them. However this small tool is not dangerous as it cannot delete any autorun.inf files on CD and DVD drives.

AutoRunExterminator shows you how many autorun.inf which were found and how many of them are excluded by the reader. Moreover it also disables the Autorun or autoplay in simple language which again makes it more powerful and usable.

For a consistent real time protection it is desired that you configure this program to start with windows.

Trouble:

Most of the virus infections are caused due to virus spreading through pen drives, memory cards and other USB drives. Many of these viruses use autorun.inf viruses which cause the infection because of a small autorun.inf files which triggers the virus files on your pen drive.

When you double click on your USB pen drive icon to open the drive in windows explorer these autorun.inf files run the viruses files and copy them to your computer to cause virus infection.

In this post we will talk about a tool called “USB Autorun Blocker” to protect your computer from pen drive viruses.

Lets find out how does this tool protect your computer from autorun.inf viruses.

Fix:

USB Autorun Blocker is a very light program, low on eating system resources. It gets loaded automatically into system memory.

How does USB protects from viruses in USB pen drive?

When ever you connect a new drive to your computer which contains autorun.inf viruses, it automatically renames autorun.inf files on the device and changes the attribute of autorun.inf file to be normal and visible to the user.

As a result you can delete the autorun.inf files on the drive and also delete all other virus files on the USB drive, whose names are their in the autorun.inf files code.

We have been receiving lots of computer problems via e-mail from our readers. We do reply to almost all e-mails that we possibly can, but in this process, the information provided by us, remains limited to the scope of the reader whom we reply. We feel that many of these problems are common to a large group of people, so now on, we will pick up some of these common problems every week and reply to them in a post so that it can benefit a large number of readers. This is our first post on the same, hope you find it useful, here it goes:

Trouble 1 :

When I try to open drive[C,D] it doesn’t open and shows a message that- Windows cannot find ‘RECYCLER\S-1-3-99-100009539-100011819-100022720-9750.com’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. – By Nikhil

Fix:

Whenever you get some error on double clicking on a dive, and the drive does not open, this is a clear indication of an autorun file which is trying to launch a virus or a spyware code. In above mail, the file it is trying to launch is RECYCLER\S-1-3-99-100009539-100011819-100022720-9750.com, which is not found as it might be detected and removed by anti-virus, but the autorun file is still there trying to launch the virus. In such a case, see this post on Scan and Remove Suspicious ‘autorun.inf’ with Autorun Eater

Trouble 2 :

I am not able to install anything in my XP Sp3. My antivirus shows all the .exe files as virus. How to get rid of that? – By Santosh

Fix :

This means that the anti-virus has gone bad, you need to un-install the anti-virus and install it again. If the corruption has happened due to a virus, its is quite possible that it has already harmed windows badly. You can run a full scan with Kaspersky Virus removal tool. In case you are having difficulty in uninstalling Norton Antivirus, see our article Unable to Uninstall Norton Anti-virus.

Trouble 3 :

Whenever I tried to defragment c drive, the PC restarted and a message shown that the System has recovered a Serious Problem. How to fix it? – By Prince

Fix:

When system re-starts on a disk operation, like defragmentation, file copying or disk scan, there can be two problems, the disk is too full, in such case, refer to our article on How to increase disk space in case of Low Disk Space. The second most common reason is bad sectors on hard disk, to check that and other health of hard disk, see the article on Test Your Hard Disk Health With Free Utilities

Trouble 4 :

I am tired of this problem, which started because I bought a larger hard disk and tried to install WinXP on it, hal.dll is missing or corrupt in windows. By Tibor

Fix:

This problem arises because of missing file or missing entries in boot.ini, for a detailed solution, read this article : How to fix – hal.dll is missing or corrupt in windows

Trouble 5 :

Windows Genuine Copy error – It at the bottom right corner of my desktop it is showing
"YOU MAY BE A VICTIM OF SOFTWARE COUNTERFEITING THIS COPY OF WINDOWS DID NOT
PASS GENUINE WINDOWS VALIDATION" – By Rahul

Fix:

This problem is because of wrong or re-used product code of windows.
