We have been receiving lots of computer problems via e-mail from our readers. We do reply to almost all e-mails that we possibly can, but in this process, the information provided by us, remains limited to the scope of the reader whom we reply. We feel that many of these problems are common to a large group of people, so now on, we will pick up some of these common problems every week and reply to them in a post so that it can benefit a large number of readers. This is our first post on the same, hope you find it useful, here it goes:

Trouble 1 :

When I try to open drive[C,D] it doesn’t open and shows a message that- Windows cannot find ‘RECYCLER\S-1-3-99-100009539-100011819-100022720-9750.com’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. – By Nikhil

Fix:

Whenever you get some error on double clicking on a dive, and the drive does not open, this is a clear indication of an autorun file which is trying to launch a virus or a spyware code. In above mail, the file it is trying to launch is RECYCLER\S-1-3-99-100009539-100011819-100022720-9750.com, which is not found as it might be detected and removed by anti-virus, but the autorun file is still there trying to launch the virus. In such a case, see this post on Scan and Remove Suspicious ‘autorun.inf’ with Autorun Eater

Trouble 2 :

I am not able to install anything in my XP Sp3. My antivirus shows all the .exe files as virus. How to get rid of that? – By Santosh

Fix :

This means that the anti-virus has gone bad, you need to un-install the anti-virus and install it again. If the corruption has happened due to a virus, its is quite possible that it has already harmed windows badly. You can run a full scan with Kaspersky Virus removal tool. In case you are having difficulty in uninstalling Norton Antivirus, see our article Unable to Uninstall Norton Anti-virus.

Trouble 3 :

Whenever I tried to defragment c drive, the PC restarted and a message shown that the System has recovered a Serious Problem. How to fix it? – By Prince

Fix:

When system re-starts on a disk operation, like defragmentation, file copying or disk scan, there can be two problems, the disk is too full, in such case, refer to our article on How to increase disk space in case of Low Disk Space. The second most common reason is bad sectors on hard disk, to check that and other health of hard disk, see the article on Test Your Hard Disk Health With Free Utilities

Trouble 4 :

I am tired of this problem, which started because I bought a larger hard disk and tried to install WinXP on it, hal.dll is missing or corrupt in windows. By Tibor

Fix:

This problem arises because of missing file or missing entries in boot.ini, for a detailed solution, read this article : How to fix – hal.dll is missing or corrupt in windows

Trouble 5 :

Windows Genuine Copy error – It at the bottom right corner of my desktop it is showing
"YOU MAY BE A VICTIM OF SOFTWARE COUNTERFEITING THIS COPY OF WINDOWS DID NOT
PASS GENUINE WINDOWS VALIDATION" – By Rahul

Fix:

This problem is because of wrong or re-used product code of windows. In case you get any such error, contact the vendor from whom you have purchased your computer, they might have not provided you a correct license. You can suppress this warning, but this is not a permanent solution. To suppress the warning, see the article : How to remove Windows is not genuine notification
