Just few days back I was struggling with a file, whose extension was .7z. I was not able to figure out the tool which should be used to open it. Then one of my friend told me about this extension and suggested to use 7-zip tool to open that file. But you will not have to suffer any more with these problems, as I have tool which is known as LocateOpener and it will inform you about the extension of any file.

There are many files in our system with different extensions and it is almost impossible to remember about all the extensions. We ha e already mentioned solutions to this problem in previous posts such as using ‘www.filext.com’ but this tool its own features and advantages which makes it more favorable in some aspects. So, we can use this tool to make our job easier, as this tool will help us to know about than format by different type utilities offered by that tool.

The size of this tool is very small i.e. below 600 Kb. So, it will get installed in no time. After getting installed it will neither create any desktop icon nor it will minimize itself on the tray.

So, you system will be as clean as possible, but it will show up in the context menu of different files present in the system. Whenever you want to use it, you will have to go to context menu of that file and then click ‘LocateOpener’, if the file extension is know then this tool will take you to the directory where that file extension reader is installed. Then you can use that installed application to open the file.

But if the file extension was not recognized on your system then it will shown an option as indicated in the snapshot shown below. It has a feature named as File Extension Seeker, which will help you to search for the solution online. But instead of doing, you can also opt for ‘Scan with TrID’, which will help to look into that file deeply.

For example if you use this tool on any .exe file then it will not be able predict the application already installed on your system, so when you go for ‘Scan with TrID’, then it will tell you about the basic constituents with which the file has been manufactured. I tried this with the Firefox setup file and the obtained has been shown below.

This freeware is compatible with all the versions of Windows, as it has been checked with Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate edition.
