This is part 18 of the Ask Trouble Fixers series, we have picked up five questions from the emails we have received from our readers.

Trouble 1 :

My pen drive / memory stick gets detected by my pc but does not open. It shows the message "Please insert a disk into drive f". Device status indicates that its functioning properly. Properties on the other hand now show ‘0 bytes’. – Prashanth

Fix:

This kind of problem occurs due to three reasons:

1. Faulty pen drive - Try use the drive on some other computer to ensure that the drive is not faulty.
2. Drive letter not assigned properly – See this tutorial – How to fix “Please insert a disk onto drive error”

3. Registry Problems – See this tutorial – My Computer Does Not Detect Pen Drives

Trouble 2 :

While playing game on PC, suddenly blue screen of death appear and PC have to be shutdown. – Sahil

Fix:

This looks like a graphics driver or DirectX problem. See this article for details – Flickering Graphics While Playing Games on PC

Trouble 3 :

I can’t make safely remove pen drive work. If i make safely remove then it shows, the program is in use or use by another program. There are three options given : 1.Cancel 2.Try again 3.Continue. If i give continue then it make safely remove. Pleas give me solution this problem – Sathishkumar

Fix:

Close all the files and programs that are opened from the pen drive and then remove it, it will get removed easily this way. The other thing you can do is to try the un-locker tool suggest in out tutorial – Generic Volume Can Not Be Stopped Right Now

Trouble 4 :

I have a problem that when I view any videos online, it plays and gets stuck. Same thing happens when i play games. I have installed flash player, directx etc…I even formatted my computer, even formatting didn’t solve it. – Nandu

Fix:

The problem of online videos getting stuck is because of the Slow Internet connection in most of the cases. It can also be because of high CPU usage. As you mentioned that the games also get stuck, so I would advice you to check the CPU usage with task manager and see if some process is taking too much CPU. Follow the below steps :

1. Check and clean some startup tasks, see this tutorial – Computer is too slow at start-up

2. Install latest version of graphics drivers, see this tutorial – Graphics Problem While Watching Movies and Playing Games

3. If there CPU usage it too high, see this tutorial to fix it – CPU usage is 100 %

If all this does not solve your problem, test your internet speed and upgrade your computer’s RAM

Trouble 5 :

I have performance problems in my laptop. My laptop is very slow, it takes a long time opening applications. – Venkatesh

Fix:

Laptop gets slow when lots of applications are running in background. Check for the Startup processes that run when you start the laptop. See this tutorial – Computer is too slow at start-up

This is part 14 of the Ask Trouble Fixers series, we have picked up five questions from the emails we have received from our readers.

Trouble 1 :

When my pc gets started the desktop shows an error message every time
-"D:/windows/eksplorasi.exe" file is missing. How to get rid of this? – Rajish

Fix:

This problem occurs due to remaining registry entries for missing executable files which are usually viruses removed by your antivirus softwares. You can remove such errors by registry cleaning. See this article for the solution : Windows Can Not Find svchost.exe

Trouble 2 :

Explorer restarts when USB hard drive accessed . – Prateek

Fix:

This kind of problem is faced when there is something wrong with the file system or there is some virus in the pen drive. To fix it, first do scan disk and after this to remove virus, see this article: Computer Restarts On Inserting Pen Drive

Trouble 3 :

I am very badly facing this issue GENERIC HOST FOR WIN32 SERVICES error, and
when i click on Don’t send the internet does not work at all. – Nasir

Fix:

See the solution in this article : Generic Host Process For Win32 Services Has Encountered A Problem And Needs To Close

Trouble 4 :

I am running windows vista 32bit. My display settings keep changing from 1360×768
pixels to 800×600 pixels on its own . can you please help? – Rodney

Fix:

Screen resolution usually changes when you run an application that needs to change screen resolution. Typically when you play a game or run some display intensive application, the resolution changes. This is a problem with the application you are running. For solving this issue, you need to ensure that the graphics driver and DirectX version is correct. See the below articles to files the same: Flickering Graphics While Playing Games and Display Resolution Degraded

Trouble 5 :

I am using Windows XP by mistakenly I disables Administrator account. Now i have
only guest account. Please help me to enable admin account. – Rohith

Fix:

You can upgrade your limited account to Administrator account using this article : Get Administrator Rights In Windows Limited Account and Reset Administrator Password In Windows

This is part 10 of the Ask Trouble Fixers series, we have picked up five questions out of some problems we received from our readers.

Trouble 1 :

I have Intel 845GL-M motherboard,I have installed Windows XP sp2,but i can not install audio driver because i don’t have that driver software. – Praveen

Fix:

To locate the hardware drivers, you need to know the motherboard brand or hardware chipset.

See the three articles below that will help you in solving your problem related to device drivers:

1. Find / Download Device Drivers For Detected Devices On Your Computer
2. Know Detailed Hardware Configuration of Your Computer

3. Check Details of Device Drivers Installed on Your Computer

Trouble 2 :

During Internet connection when I am surfing or browsing the internet the picture or images are not clear something like blurred images, i use mostly all the browsers but the same problem remains on all browser. – Sunil

Fix:

This can be due to several reasons including:

1. Improper screen resolutions, for this problem, try with different screen resolutions by right clicking the desktop > settings, change screen resolution and try loading images.

2. Improper graphics drivers. Check your graphics drivers and also flash player for dynamic content.

3. Improper browser settings. For this problem, try in different browsers like Google Chrome / Mozilla Firefox / Opera / Safari etc. Try to adjust the browser settings to achieve proper loading of images.

Trouble 3 :

I once installed the Nokia PC suite but now I want to uninstall that but I am able to uninstall that. It displays the error message saying some files or missing. I even reinstalled whole Software again thinking some files have corrupted even then when I uninstall it is displaying same message that some files are missing. – Apache

Fix:

There are certain softwares which create problem during un-installation. To uninstall such softwares, see this article : Fee Un-installer Tools To Remove Un-wanted Programs

Trouble 4 :

I got this virus named pagefile.sys – Hanafi

Fix:

Pagefile.sys is Windows operating system file which is usually created on C-drive. This is not a virus but an important file needed to run windows properly. To hide this file see this article on hiding system files : How to hide desktop.ini and thumb.db

Trouble 5 :

How to format the pen-drive/flash which says the drive is write protected. – Raj

Fix:

This is one of the most common and annoying problem these days with pen drives. See our article on : Remove Write Protection On USB Pen Drive or Memory Card . The last method in this article, updated on 28th May 2009 lists the utility to format such pen drives.

Hope you find these solutions useful. You can submit your problems to us at Our Submit Problem Page.

Here comes part 6 of Ask Troublefixers after a break of a week. We have been on little vacation in last week so we were not able to take up the question answers in last week.

Trouble 1 :

Can you please tell me how can I remove Service pack 3 from Windows XP because i m not able to install my HDA audio drive. – Rahul

Fix:

There is a way to undo the installation of Windows XP service pack 3. So in case you have upgraded to Windows XP service pack 3, you can downgrade to SP2 using this tutorial to Uninstall Windows XP Service Pack 3. For windows driver related problems, see our tutorial on Finding Windows Drivers, also some Drivers related tutorials here.

Trouble 2 :

My computer responds "Unable to load graphics" when i prompt 2 play a game. – Varchasva

Fix:

This is a clear indication that the graphics the game is using are beyond the capability of your computer’s graphics card or chipset. In such a case, try to reduce the graphics quality in game settings and options. Also turn off un-necessary applications before starting the game.

Sometimes its a DirectX related problem, see our tutorial on DirectX problem with Games. You can also consider to upgrade the graphics card as per your budget and needs. You can test your graphics card using this tutorial.

Trouble 3 :

I have a problem with my one of hardware device. I have assembled my computer
recently, when I am installing windows XP on my computer some times my computer
is automatically restarting with a small noise. – Luckman

Fix:

The noise you hear is a beep from the internal speaker of the computer case or cabinet. The most common reason for such problem is a faulty RAM or incompatible RAM. See theses guidelines while buying RAM for your computer. Read this article on RAM compatibility for further details.

Trouble 4 :

My computer freezes,it gets blue screen. It is even so slow taking more than 15 minutes to load up. There is plenty of room on hard disc ,it turns its self on saying serious error, scanned with Malewarebytes, antimalware, also nod virus detection removed all infected files but still its happening. Please help. – Derek

Fix:

The problems you mention can be because of certain reasons, most likely outdated or corrupted device drivers cause Blue Screen of Death errors. See our tutorial on finding drivers to upgrade device drivers, you can also try this paid Driver Scanner software if you want.

Other reason can be over-heating because of faulty fans.

The reason for it to take too much time to boot is because of too much startup entries. See this tutorial to make your computer fast.

Trouble 5 :

I can’t use microphone in my computer and when i use msn i can hear my friends but they can’t hear me. – Helder

Fix:

Microphone problem is one of the most common problems with Windows Vista as it treats different microphone inputs differently and user has to select the microphone correctly. Once you select the correct microphone input device in settings, the problem gets solved.
One of our readers, Jamie wrote

“My PC monitor used to have 32-bit color quality at 1024×768 pixels. Then one time, the screen appeared to be bleeding. Large red globs rained down on the screen. After that, the best I could get was 800×600 resolution and 16-bit color.”

This is not unusual to get such type of problem. I also faced such a problem when I installed a new game on my desktop. After I launched the game, the display resolution was degraded and remained like that.

Why display resolution gets affected ?

The most common reason for display resolution reduction / degradation is corruption of display driver files by some application or game. Sometimes drivers may get corrupt due to a corruption of drive area which stores the drivers.

Lets see how to fix it.

Fix:

Fix is rather simple, just un-install the previously installed display driver / graphics card driver and install it again. Make sure that you have latest version of display drivers / graphic drivers available. Also update the DirectX version for better graphics experience.

Also you can see this post relating to graphics problem for reference.

After you have installed the drivers, restart your computer. The trouble is fixed.
