Trouble:

If you use remote terminal often, as I do in my office, you might realize that the Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook become too slow or Not Responding for some time when you try to open them the first time.

This kind of problem usually occurs because of the default Printer and File Sharing when you connect to your computer remotely from other computer using Remote Desktop Connection. After you are disconnected, your computer tends to remember the network printers and tries to find them next time.

Because MS word and MS outlook search for the connected printers when you start them, they become slow when you open them on your own computer after a remote desktop connection.

In this article we will tell you the solutions to solve this problem.

Fix:

There are two things which you need to do to solve this problem.

Disable Auto Discovery Of Network Printers

Go to My Computer. Open Tools Menu > Folder Options. Go to View Tab, and un-check the options which says “Automatically Search for network folders and printers” and press OK. See the image below for details:

Remove Unused Network Printers

The Printers that have been already added to your printer options and are causing the MS Word and MS outlook to become slow must be removed. To remove, click on Start > Printer and Faxes, this will open the printer window as seen below. On this screen, just right click and delete the network printers that you do not use.

That is it. We recommend you to restart your computer after you make these changes.
