thanks for sharing but in xp most of the time task manager disabled cause of some virus attacks.

i manage to open the task manager. but for about 5secs. the REG_DWORD DisableTaskMgr keeps returning.. how do i solve this probem

My taskmgr was disabled by the Windows Protection Suite virus. I don’t get any error msgs, just nothing happens when I hit ctl-alt-del or type taskmgr in the Run command. I tried the regedit suggestion, but there is no subfolder “system” for the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, and no value DisableTaskMgr anywhere in the registry. I am using XP home edition.

well i guess i have made mahself clear in the above post … if not … the bottomline is that the registy gets modified automatically within 1 or 2 secs after i edit it … what can i do ??

well i tried all solutions for restoring task manager available on the internet … but the problem is even after editing the registry i get a 1 or 2 second time to start the taskmanager after that automatically the registry gets modified … arent there any way to save the registry . On top of all this problm started right after installing the os … there was no chance of any virus attack , it would not solve even if i format the system .

Neither method in the article helped. Tried both methods. Haven’t looked through all the comments (yet).

The gpedit.msc instructions were a bit off for Windows XP (Pro) for Tablet PC, but close enough that I could follow them. The issue there was that “Remove Task Manager” was already set to “Not configured.” So that’s not the cause of my problems.

Second, the RegEdit instructions assumed there’d be a DisableTaskMgr key in my registry. There isn’t.

A possibly related issue — my administrative tools folder is empty, and tips online that I’ve followed to fix that issue have likewise not been successful.
