Hi abhishek,

My problem is that Taskmanager is grayed out from start bar & Ctrl+Alt+Del and it wont even work from the run prompt. I am running XP Home so I don’t have the gpedit.msc. I did a search in the registry (using regedit which works!!!) and found the Disable TaskMgr entry but that was set to 0. I have a backup drive in my machine which I can boot from if I change my drive order and the TaskMan.exe in that Windows dir is exactly the same as the one on my main boot drive (well it has the same date & size).

Any Ideas? I really don’t want to have to re-install & I can’t find my XP disc anyway, I still have the license key though!!

Thank in advance

Neil V

remove virus ntdetec1.exe will solve the problem
To remove it, run the following commands at the command prompt:

taskkill /im cmrss.exe
taskkill /im ntdetec1.exe
taskkill /im shell32.exe

Now, make sure you are in the root drive of your system. For example, if your Windows in installed in C:, make sure your prompt shows C:\>
Now, run the command..

attrib ntdetec1 -s -h /s /d

This will make the folder visible in explorer. Now you can Shift+Delete the folder from explorer.

Also, you might need to delete the following registry key (if it is present)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\ Run\”winlogon” = “C:\ntdetec1\run.exe”

Dear Trouble fixers,

To enable disabled Task manager and Regedit, you may use the software TaskManagerFix.exe and RegistryFix.exe to fix the trouble.

I did as you said, put in “regedit” and it says this, “Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator.” I don’t know what to do now, so if you would please, send me an email on how to fix this problem.
