Access Any Spreadsheets Anywhere By Uploading It To Google Docs

Google Docs is a Web based documents storage service offered by Google. This service is absolutely free and it allows you to create and edit your documents online and even collaborate them in real-time with other users. This technology is designed by Tonic Systems by combining the features of Writley and Spreadsheets on January 13,2010.

Seeing so much popularity, recently Google Spreadsheets have added some new features that lets you import files from your PC. Once your file gets uploaded, it even shows you the preview of that particular file and then gives you various options to append the data of your spread sheet.

So from the file menu, you will see a new option to import a document. Click on this option to import any of your MS Office document into Google Docs online. The formats which are supported by Google Spreadsheets for importing are XLS, XLSX, ODS, CSV and TXT. You will see following window when you click on this option.

Click on Choose file to upload any desired file. Now at the right side, it will automatically show you the preview of your file. Under the Import Actions, various options are given like Insert New Sheet, Replace Spread sheet, Replace Current Spreadsheet, Append rows to current sheet and Replace the data starting from the selected cell. All these options will help you to customize your new spread sheet with the existing ones.

You can even use Separator Character to import only particular data which you need. So there are various options available using which you can select multiple delimiters just as you can do in MS Excel and then pick only desired data before importing it online. You can use the three predefined Special Character or can even use your own character by simply typing it in Custom.

As you give any of the special character, Google Docs will then instantly show you the preview of your spread sheet. So you can see how your sheet will look before import only and hence it will give you maximum flexibility when dealing with documents. When you are done with desired settings, simply click on Import button to import that particular spread sheet online.

You can further edit or add data after importing and after saving it, you can even set the visibility mode of your spread sheet i.e either make it public to share it with everyone over web or make it private and share with only some of your buddies.
