Most of you will be unaware of the fact that Flash movies and applications can store their own ‘Flash cookies’ which are entirely separate from normal cookies. There is no way to delete or even view these cookies in your web browser, so they can be used to see what sites you’ve visited even if you’ve deleted all your history and normal cookies.
So, if you want to keep your visited sites a secret then you need to delete these flash cookies either manually or using a tool.
These cookies are usually saved in C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\[Random Name]
Windows 7 and vista users, try C:\Users\[Username]\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects\[Random Name] instead.
This directory will contain sub-directories, one for each site which uses a Flash cookie. The cookie data is stored in files with a .sol extension. You can manually delete the directories for the sites which you don’t want to keep Flash cookies for.
There is also an option of using Adobe’s “Flash Player Settings” application which does not solve the problem since this only deletes the .sol file that contains the actual data. The directory which contains the name of the site you’ve visited is retained which means that anyone can still see which sites you’ve visited even if the actual data is gone. So, the problem still persists.
You can skip this entire time consuming process of first searching the flash cookies and deleting them by using a freeware called Flash Cookie remover.
Flash Cookie Remover is a smart and compact tool which will search for all the flash cookies and help you in deleting them with just a few clicks of your mouse. It is compatible with windows 7 , Windows Vista and Windows XP.
The tool is downloaded as an exe application so does not need any installation. When you will run the application, it will directly show you the list of flash cookies present and also the path of the place where they are stored.
Now, you can delete either all the cookies or selected ones using the options provided at the top of the main window. You can also disable few flash cookies if you want.
With this tool in your system, you can now very easily search and delete the flash cookies keeping your visited sites a secret.
