It could be quite difficult for people to find out whether your windows is genuine or not, as sometimes the computer dealer may install a pirated copy of windows on your computer and you never know that you have a illegal copy of windows on your computer.
So, if you want to know whether your copy of windows is genuine or not, follow the methods given below. The methods given below applies to all windows versions so it is irrespective of what windows version you are running on your computer.
In order to find out whether your windows is genuine you can do the following things mentioned below.
Windows XP Genuine Check
Run the following command in Run Prompt [ Press Window Key + r to open run prompt ] – type the following command without quotes – “c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe /a”
Note: For the above command if you get a dialog box saying Thanks for using our product" then you have a genuine copy of windows but If the dialog ask you to activate the product then you own a pirated copy of windows.
Windows Vista Genuine Check
Open the command Prompt by pressing Windows + R key . Run the following scripts on the command prompt.
slmgr –xpr
slmgr.vbs -dli
slmgr.vbs -dlv
These scripts will display expiry date, License information and verification details as seen below :
Windows 7 Genuine Check
Microsoft has just released an update which help you confirm the copy of windows 7 installed on your computer is genuine or not. This update is made available and mandatory for all the windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit users.
This update will get installed and runs a validation in background. If the validation error or activation exploit is detected due to illegal or pirated copy of windows 7 on your system then it will redirect you towards the resolution, and you may be asked to validate to activate the copy of windows 7 running on your computer, if you don’t activate it will pop up after every x number of days to activate windows 7 running on your computer which is not genuine.

Hello, because I have Windows XP I typed in the following to check whether my computer was activated “c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe /a” .. as i typed this in a windows came up saying my windows was activated. So does that mean sometime in the future it my windows will deactivate? Thanks.
