Windows 7 Update Fails– Stuck at “Do not turn off computer”

Windows update is meant to keep your Windows PC updated with latest security and features related updates from Microsoft which are released form time-to-time. These updates have a variety of stuff including security updates, updates for Microsoft products, drivers updates etc. and it installs these updates based on your Windows update settings. There maybe a typical scenario for some users where Windows update may get stuck in Windows 7 updates with an error which says:


Error: Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer.

Such problem arises because of some internal error or some other internal conflict while installing Windows update. In such cases, you may not be able to install updates and may get stuck at the screen while shutdown which asks you not to turn off your computer. In this article, we share some of the solutions to this problem.

There are multiple ways to solve this problem, read the solutions below and try them one by one until the problem is resolved.

Solution 1: Microsoft has a tool called Microsoft Fix It which is multi-purpose troubleshooting tool with option to fix the Microsoft Windows update related problems. Solution 2: Use Microsoft System restore functionality to restore your Windows PC to an older date which will potentially remove any conflict, setting changes or something installed recently which might be causing a problem. Solution 3: There is a procedure to do an In Place Upgrade which is almost like a fresh install with online upgrades. We do not recommend this method as you may loose all your data and programs.
